Majesty King Abdullah, the Supreme Commander
of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF),
on Monday opened the North Gendarmerie Command
premises in Irbid governorate.
On his arrival, the King was
welcomed by Director General of the Gendarmerie
Department Maj. Gen., Hussein Hawatmeh and
The King toured the new installations,
which comprise the headquarters of the 16th
Gendarmerie Battalion Command, training
yards, operations rooms, a mosque, a sports
hall, and a number of logistics services
The King discussed with Maj.
Gen. Hawatmeh security and organization-driven
issues related to the Gendarmerie forces.
The King listened to a briefing
on the Gendarmerie's modernization, development,
and security openness policy, which plays
a key role in achieving its strategy in
upholding security for citizens and residents
across the country.
The King also attended a training
day for the Gendarmerie personnel to get
reassured on their fitness and operational
preparedness, a force that has long been
recognized for their capacity to respond
to normal and contingent security events
with high professionalism, promptness and
In this context, His Majesty
lauded the Gendarmerie's advanced level
in the training and armament fields and
commended their high morale.
This project comes in
light of the Gendarmerie's strategy (2015-2020)
to keep in pace with urban expansion and
to bolster its field performance to carry
out its duties within the framework of the
ambitious decentralization scheme and to
provide an effective security umbrella for
all inhabited areas and tourism and economic
installations across the country.
