Washington, (Petra) - His Majesty King Abdullah met Tuesday in Washington with U.S. Defense Secretary, James Mattis, and U.S. National Security Advisor Herbert McMaster in two separate meetings. They discussed the strategic partnership between Jordan and the United States as well as regional issues.

King Abdullah discussed ways to promote military and defense cooperation between the two countries and the U.S support to Jordan in these fields.

Regional and international efforts to combat terrorism within a holistic strategy, were reviewed, while emphasizing the importance of intensifying coordination and cooperation among all countries concerned in addressing this threat, which is threatening global peace and security.

The meeting also focused on the current situation in the Middle East, especially the Syrian crisis and developments in Iraq.

During his meeting with U.S. National Security Advisor Herbert McMaster, aspects of cooperation between the two friendly countries, were reviewed, especially in the security field.

Strategic cooperation between Jordan and the United States, in the framework of regional and international efforts in the war on terrorism, was also addressed.

Regarding the efforts to revive the peace process, His Majesty the King said the absence of a political horizon for a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution and the Arab peace initiative will lead to further extremism.

His Majesty stressed the need to preserve the historical situation in Jerusalem, and said that changing this status will have negative repercussions on the entire region.
