Amman, (Petra) -- Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Adel Tweisi, and President of the Canadian International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Jean Lebel, on Monday, discussed procedures for relocating of the IDRC's Regional Center to Amman.

In a meeting attended by Canada's Ambassador to Jordan, Peter MacDougall, Tweisi said his ministry is ready to meet the IDRC Regional Center's desire to be relocated to Amman due to its importance to Jordanian researchers.

He added that the ministry will do its best to complete the relocation within official channels.

The Canadian official said the IDRC will provide support for Jordanian researchers as well as the opportunity to network with international researchers. It will also highlight research issues of concern to the Middle East and North Africa.

Lebel noted that he had met with the Ministers of Agriculture, Environment, Foreign and Expatriate Affairs and Planning and International Cooperation to discuss relocation of the IDRC to Amman.

The center, if opened in Amman, will provide financial and logistical support for scientific research and those related to human capacity development and as well as identifying the importance of scientific research in the service of sustainable development.
